The state of solar in Ireland

Solar uptake in Ireland has grown fast on the back of SEAI grants — and the sales machine around it has grown just as fast. Door-to-door reps, aggressive online ads, and installer sales targets have created a wave of misinformation about payback periods, battery necessity, and what size system a home actually needs.
The result is that too many homeowners end up with a system sized to what an installer had in stock or needed to hit a quarterly target — not what their roof and usage actually support. We exist to give you the honest, independent answer instead, before you've committed to anything.

What we'll need from you
None of this needs to be formal — a phone photo of a bill and letting us up on the roof covers most of it.
A recent electricity bill
6/12 months of ESB bills or your smart meter data, so sizing the system is based on what you actually use — not a national average.
Access to the roof
Ground-level or ladder access to view the roof directly, plus attic access if a structural check is needed.
Your address or Eircode
Needed to model your exact roof orientation and any local shading — not just your county's average sun hours.
Any existing quotes (optional)

SortMySolar exists to answer two questions honestly: does solar suit your home, and what size actually fits your usage — with nothing to gain from the answer either way.
Every sizing recommendation is based on your measured roof data and real usage, not a national average or an installer's default. If solar doesn't make sense for your roof, we'll say so — and that's happened to about one in five clients we've assessed.
